Luis Salazar Manzano

Astrophysics Ph.D. candidate, observational astronomer, and researcher in small Solar System bodies and planetary system formation.

Hello! I am Luis, an Astrophysics Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Michigan.

My research focuses on how rocky and icy planetesimals can be used to understand the formation and evolution of planetary systems. I study populations within the Solar System such as Jupiter Trojans, comets, and interstellar objects using a broad range of observational techniques, including optical imaging and spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and radio interferometry.

I am originally from Pereira, a city in the heart of the coffee region of Colombia. I earned an M.S. in Physics from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira.
